Do Turtles Despawn

Well I turn around to futz with something, literally just turning my back on my turtles, and they vanish. Not escape to the ocean, just poof gone. The wiki makes it sound like feeding them seagrass should prevent them from despawning, and I saw another old post talking about someone name tagging turtles and them vanishing.

Apparently there's been some bug since 2018 that makes baby turtles despawn when you go further than 20ish blocks away from them. Apparently putting name tags on baby turtles stops them from despawning, but I didn't get to try that out yet. If you want, I could let you know if it works when I do try it.
